The Venice of the Alps
You will fall in love with the beautiful medieval city of Annecy with its old town, canals lined with magnificent medieval buildings, floral balconies and bridges. Visit the Chateau for a beautiful view over the city and to discover its history. Stroll through the pedestrian streets and enjoy a local Savoyard dish in one of many of its charming restaurants or simply enjoy a cooling ice cream from one of the many ice creameries. Annecy is accessible 20 minutes by car, 1 hr by bike or you can take the boat on the lake.
Also known as the "city of four steeples" and the "Venice of the Alps", Annecy seduces by its exceptional location between lake and mountain, its landscapes and its atmosphere, as well as by the richness of its historical and architectural heritage. The old town has many treasures. During a guided or free tour of the capital of Haute-Savoie, do not miss the county castle overlooking the city, the former 12th century prison called the Palais de l'Isle, and the Cathedral of Saint-Pierre. Carnot Street, Sainte-Claire Street and Royale Street are pleasant pedestrian streets that invite you to stroll along the Thiou River. The shores of the lake offer yet another atmosphere, with their marina, beaches, parks and promenades. The Marquisats beach, which is grassy, is free and supervised in summer. Imperial's paid beach has a solarium and many sports and leisure facilities. To walk by the lake and relax with your family, there is nothing better than the 7-hectare Paquier esplanade or the wooded park of the Jardins de l'Europe. The two sites are linked by the famous Pont des amours, an essential Annecy landmark.
